Employment Overview

Raton and the surrounding area offer a broad range of job types such as ranching, oil & gas, as well as the typical retail, medical, and service industries found in any town of 8,000 population. 

Salaries are somewhat depressed compared with other parts of the country with $10 per hour being considered a good wage.  Most jobs range in pay between $7 and $10 per hour.  Insurance and other benefits are scarce and are usually offered only by the larger companies with branches in the area, such as banks and the oil & gas industries.

The best place to find jobs in the area is the newspaper classifieds for Raton and Trinidad.  By far the most common job opening is for nurses (LPN), with two or three positions offered on a weekly basis.
